Are you the proud owner of a food truck? Do you travel with your booth to all the markets of North Holland? Or do you have a small practice as an independent masseur or physiotherapist? Whatever type of ZAP employee or small entrepreneur you are: there is a chance that you will have to accept various (small) amounts on location. A mobile ATM is then practically indispensable.
But, of course, one mobile ATM is not the other. There are quite a few variations in circulation and that does not make it any easier to choose a card reader that matches Your wishes and preferences. That is why, in addition to our comparison overview, we have made a handy summary of what we see as the most important points to consider during a possible purchase.
A mobile PIN device usually works via the WiFi and / or the mobile network, but not with a fixed connection. It is therefore worthwhile to determine whether there is a mobile network or WiFi available at all before purchasing a mobile ATM. Is that the case? If you plan to use the local Wi-Fi, check the range of the signal and the stability of the connection. After all, you don't want customers who are sitting on the far left or right on your terrace suddenly unable to pay. Assume that, if your phone is in range, your card reader will also work.
The choice of a specific type of card machine also depends strongly on the number of payments you expect to process. Are you going to use the device every day? And do you think that this involves a lot of (small) payments? Then suppliers who offer so-called bundles are useful to work with. With these types of bundles, the more payments, the less you pay for them. The amounts vary from $ 0.05 to $ 0.30 per transaction, depending on the supplier in question.
Do you expect to need Your mobile card machine only sporadically for (large) transactions? Then it might be more convenient to look at providers who charge a percentage of the transaction amount. Do calculate carefully beforehand what this will cost you if you suddenly have to process more payments. The arrival of contactless payment must of course pay off.
Pin service providers are built in much the same way as the card reader itself: they come in different shapes and sizes. Some organizations offer Your as a customer much more service than others.
Example: sometimes it is possible to conclude a so-called service contract. This means that you can go to the supplier if your ATM unexpectedly stops. An exchange service can also be very useful. You will receive a replacement device if the usual version fails.
Handy when you really cannot do without transactions. And which payment methods do you want to be able to accept? Google and Apply Pay, for example, are becoming increasingly popular payment methods. So take a close look at your own company and determine which of these types of additional services can be of use to your organization.
Let's say that buying an ATM is essentially always cheaper - especially if you expect to use Your device a lot. For example, you can go for a copy that can print receipts - or an edition that is specially designed for use on the road.
But this may not be the case for financial reasons. In that case, it pays off to at least rent a device that does not require you to be bound by some long-term contract. You can always check at a later date whether a possible purchase is in order.

The purchase costs of a card reader are the one-off costs that you pay for your device, the so-called terminal. These are completely dependent on the device and brand in question and can range from $ 30 to $ 300 .
The purchase costs of course include the amount for the device itself, but also possible administration costs. Some companies charge this to straighten out their expenses for entering Your details.
You can think of your company data, but also linking the device to your bank account.
Subscription costs can be billed both monthly and annually. You then pay a recurring amount for, among other things, the support functions that the supplier offers.
This includes the amount for the aforementioned service contract, which insures you of any repairs, or the aforementioned exchange service, whereby you will be borrowed a replacement device in case of problems.
You can read exactly how subscription costs work in this article .
The transaction costs depend on what kind of contract you have concluded with the supplier. Based on this, you pay a fixed and monthly amount with which you can process an x number of transactions and / or a variable amount that depends on the actual number of payments that are reviewed.
The following generally applies: the higher the fixed costs, the lower the variable payments. An alternative is a bundle with which you pay a percentage on the amount settled.
In addition to these amounts, you must of course also take into account bills that are otherwise separate from your mobile ATM. Think of costs for your WiFi connection or for the use of the mobile network.
In the latter case, also make sure that, just like with a mobile phone, you need a SIM card. Finally, remember that fixed ATMs can also have administration and installation costs.
Curious what an ATM costs in your situation? In this article we explain exactly what a mobile card machine costs for an entrepreneur who provides services on location, for an entrepreneur with his own stall / shop, and for a restaurant.
As you now know, the charges for mobile ATMs partly depend on the transaction amounts that come along. Which copy is the cheapest depends on the type of company you run. Nevertheless, we know a number of copies that are generally the cheapest. So our favorites.
Pin Mobile is the cheapest provider for few high-value transactions. The one-off purchase costs for the mobile card machine are $ 29. The costs per transaction are $ 0.14.
This makes codemobile a more affordable solution compared to a traditional ATM. A disadvantage is the fact that the app only supports basic functions.
In addition, you must re-enter the product name and the amount for each transaction and Pin Mobile customer service can only be reached by email.
Do you have many low value trades? Then iTransact is the most attractive party to work with. The one-off purchase costs are, just like with Pin Mobile, $ 29, but you pay a relatively low percentage on the transaction amount: 0.95%.
You also have direct access to the accepted payments thanks to the myPOS bank account - and as a customer of iTransact you also receive a business VISA card. A disadvantage is the fact that you do have to transfer the money to your own account. That will cost you $ 3.
iTransact is also the best provider if you are looking for a machine with a receipt printer. The purchase costs are then $ 249 - the percentage of the total amount also remains at 0.95%. Here too you have to transfer the money to your own account for $ 3 at a time.
In addition, a machine with printer is a smart, but of course also a pricey purchase.
More inexpensive variants
In addition to the devices of Pin Mobile and iTransact, there are a number of other variants that may not be the cheapest, but may still be interesting depending on your situation. MySolve devices, for example. mySolve is also suitable for low value transactions. The purchase costs are only $ 15, but the percentage of the transaction amount is 1.95% a lot higher than the aforementioned variants.
We see the sovereign as the best free bill. This is offset by a purchase amount of $ 59 and a transaction percentage of 1.90%.
Finally, iTransact also offers a special copy for users who are often on the road, such as market traders. This smaller edition will cost you $ 129 once. The costs per transaction are 0.95%, which is now trusted for iTransact.
A mobile card reader is of course not always the solution. Anyone who, as an entrepreneur, has a clear payment point, in most cases a cash register, may not need a mobile ATM at all. And a fixed card reader has more advantages.
This way they are relatively easy to connect to an internet connection. In contrast to a mobile edition, this is possible with a fixed connection (with a cable), via the WiFi network or a mobile network (2G, 3G, 4G and 5G).
The usefulness of a fixed device naturally changes when you regularly visit your customers, for example if you are a plumber or locksmith. In short: ask yourself whether there should be a central payment point and determine whether a mobile ATM, from the perception of the customer, has added value or not.
Does it not matter much in your case whether you work with a fixed or a mobile PIN device? Then you can also take the costs into account. In general, fixed devices are slightly cheaper than a mobile payment system . This has to do with the monthly costs for, among other things, the SIM card.
