Alabama: Bassist of country music group Alabama arrested for possession of marijuana

Gentry – bassist and founding member of the country music supergroup – was arrested for minor possession of marijuana. He was also accused of having drug paraphernalia. Gentry, 70, of Fort Payne, was arrested and released from the Cherokee County Jail in northeast Alabama after being booked.

Records showed he was released about half an hour later. According to Sheriff Jeff Shaver, the arrest took place during a traffic stop, although court records are not immediately available.

Band reaction

A group spokesman, Don Murry Grubbs, said he was aware of the situation but had no immediate comment. Gentry formed the group around 50 years ago with Jeff Cook and his cousin Randy Owen, and they eventually sold over 70 million albums, releasing dozens of hits like “My Home’s in Alabama”, “Dixieland Delight ” and “Tennessee”. Rivière.” The group was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2005.

The band announced their retirement from touring in 2007 and held a farewell tour. However, he later resumed his live performances. In 2019 they held their 50th anniversary tour.
