Becker found guilty of four counts in bankruptcy trial, UK media report

April 8 (Reuters) – German tennis great Boris Becker was found guilty on Friday of four counts under insolvency law following his bankruptcy trial in London, British media reported.

The 54-year-old six-time Grand Slam champion, who was on trial at Southwark Crown Court, faced 24 charges under the law from May to October 2017.

Becker, a former world number one who won Wimbledon three times, had denied the charges, including nine counts of withholding trophies and awards and seven of concealing property worth more than $1.5million. euros ($1.63 million).

Becker was declared bankrupt on June 21, 2017 in the High Court in London in connection with a debt to private bankers Arbuthnot Latham & Co.

Under the terms of the bankruptcy order, he was required to provide full disclosure of his assets.

Last month, the court heard that Becker “acted dishonestly” in failing to hand over assets, including his Wimbledon singles trophies, before and after his declaration of bankruptcy. Read more
