Teens Spread Joy Through Music

INDIAN HILL – Their shirts say ‘where words fail, music speaks’. Most of the students are long gone after Friday class, but this student musical group is not like most.

The band is called the power of music. Some students at Indian Hill High School use this time to practice with the music group that aims to spread joy.

Joseph Kayne came up with the idea. His musical muse was his grandmother, for whom he sang through video chat.

“She is 91 and lives alone,” Kayne explained. “One of the things that gives him joy is listening to me sing.”

Maybe because she was also a singer, having performed in New York nightclubs.

The group’s workforce is now increasing.

“It made my heart happy, having been playing the violin since second grade,” Indian Hill High School junior Emery Cunningham said of Power of Music. “I have always loved music.”

Sharing the love has been a little more difficult since the pandemic made it difficult to sing in person. Power of Music has therefore taken on its virtual influence.

Kayne’s parents couldn’t be prouder.

Alexander Kayne is happy that his son has made such an effort.

“He’s reaching out to the nonprofits they sent the videos to, to let them know that when you’re ready for the performances, we’ll be ready,” Kayne’s mother Jody Yetzer said.

The group is training to make sure they hit the right notes with the people they hope will bring some positivity.

“I love music and I know the joy you feel when you listen to music.” Kanye said. “Taking this joy and spreading it is my real life mission.”
