Music streaming platforms like Deezer have a comprehensive music library in their catalog. While having a wide assortment is good for everyone, not every artist or song available will be your cup of tea. Fortunately, that’s why recommendation algorithms exist.

They learn your musical tastes and try as much as possible to recommend similar music based on the artists and songs you play. But the recommendations are not perfect. And as such, you might want to remove a particular artist or song from appearing in your custom playlists.

How to remove an artist from your Deezer recommendations

If you’re a Deezer newbie looking for tricks, you’re going to want to learn how to get rid of artists you don’t like. If you remove an artist, Deezer won’t include any of their songs in your custom playlists. To remove an artist from your recommendations on mobile and desktop, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the artist’s page. You can do this by searching for their name using the Look for tongue. Alternatively, if their track is playing, tap the music player at the bottom (on mobile), select the three-dot menu, and tap their name. On desktop, you can access an artist’s page by clicking on their name in the bottom player.
  2. On the artist page, select the three-dot menu. On mobile, the menu is located at the top right; on the desktop, you’ll find this menu slightly below the artist’s name.
  3. Finally, select Do not recommend this artist. Deezer will display a pop-up message once the changes have taken effect.

An easy way to do this is to use the angry emoji, which for paid subscribers is only available on Flow and select Deezer mixes. However, you will see the angry emoji at all levels if you are a free subscriber.

To ban an artist, select the angry emoji and select Do not recommend this artist in the context menu.

How to remove a song from your Deezer recommendations

If you don’t like a specific song from a particular artist that regularly appears in your recommendation, you can easily block it. Here’s how:

  1. Find the song you want to block.
  2. Select the three-dot menu next to the song on the search results page to open a pop-up menu.
  3. Finally, select Do not recommend this trail.

Deezer will automatically save your changes. Alternatively, if you’re on mobile and the song you want to block is playing, open the media player at the bottom of your screen. If an angry emoji is available, select it and choose Do not recommend this trail in the context menu. The player will automatically skip to the next song.

If the angry emoji button is not available, go to the playlist page and select the three-dot menu next to the song you want to block. Then select Do not recommend this trail.

On the desktop, just click the angry emoji icon, if available, and choose Do not recommend this trail. If not available, click on the song title to go to the album page. Next, find the song you want to block and click on the adjacent three-dot menu. Finally, click Do not recommend this trail. The changes apply to all devices, even if you listen to Deezer on your HomePod.

How to manage your blocked songs and artists on Deezer (browser)

You can view and manage your blocked songs and artists on Deezer. This gives you a chance to release certain artists or songs from your personal blacklist. At the time of writing, this option is only available on the browser.

You can view and manage your Deezer exclusions by following these steps:

First, go to Deezer.com and sign in to your account if you haven’t already. Next, click on your profile picture in the top right. Deezer will open a context menu. Select Manage my exclusions.

Deezer web settings menu

On the next page you will see two tabs, one for Excluded tracks and another for Excluded Artists.

Go to the right tab and click the block icon next to or above the artist or song you want to unblock. And that’s all. Deezer will recommend the artist or song again.

Refine your Deezer recommendations

Getting decent recommendations on Deezer, like on other music streaming platforms, takes patience. If you’re just starting out, it can be difficult to get recommendations tailored to your specific musical tastes. But with time and regular listening, the algorithm will pick up what you like best and start showing you more relevant suggestions.

You can remove songs or artists from your recommendation to speed up the process. Hope you can do it now by following the steps in this article.
